La Coquille et le Clergyman

The duo AZURA, Leo Vrillaud (piano and synths) and Sara Badalo (voice and machines), move through the atmospheres and rhythms of the 1928 French film "La Coquille et le Clergyman".

During the intense 40 minutes of what is considered to be the first work of Surrealist cinema, electronics and free-jazz improvisation give themselves over to director Germaine Dulac's journey in what was her profound cinematic exploration of the human psychological dimension, present in the Surrealist avant-garde.

40 minutes of communication between the experimentalist and improvisational music of the duo AZURA, the phantasmagoric script of hallucinations, metamorphoses and desires of the screenwriter Antonin Artaud and the feminist, provocative, libertarian and surrealist vision of the director Germaine Dulac.
